Eyes That Burn, Itch, or Feel Gritty? It's Probably Dry Eye — Here's What Helps
That persistent scratchy, stinging feeling in your eyes isn't always an infection. More often than not, it's dry eye — a condition where your eyes either don't produce enough tears, or the tears they do produce evaporate too quickly to keep the surface properly lubricated.
Siccaprotect eye drops are designed specifically for this: replacing the moisture that natural tears aren't providing enough of.
Why Dry Eye Happens
Your eyes depend on a stable tear film to stay comfortable, clear, and healthy. When that film breaks down, the surface of the eye — particularly the cornea and conjunctiva — dries out. This can happen for several reasons:
- Prolonged screen time (we blink less when focusing)
- Air conditioning, heating, or dry indoor environments
- Wearing hard contact lenses
- Certain medications that reduce tear production
- Autoimmune conditions or hormonal changes
- Incomplete eyelid closure or eyelid disorders
The result is a range of familiar discomforts: burning, itching, grittiness, redness, or blurred vision that clears when you blink.
How Siccaprotect Works
Siccaprotect combines two active ingredients — dexpanthenol and polyvinyl alcohol — to address dry eye from two angles:
- Dexpanthenol (a form of vitamin B5) has an anti-inflammatory effect, helps suppress itching, and actively supports the renewal of the cornea and conjunctiva — so damaged surface tissue can recover more quickly
- Polyvinyl alcohol acts as the lubricating agent, binding water and creating a stable, tear-like film over the eye surface
Together they don't just add temporary moisture — they also help settle irritation and support the underlying surface while it heals.
Siccaprotect is indicated for:
- Dry eye caused by reduced tear production (keratoconjunctivitis sicca)
- Corneal dryness from local eye disorders or systemic conditions
- Dryness related to incomplete eyelid closure
- Lubricating the eye when wearing hard contact lenses
How to Use It
Adults and children use 1 drop into the conjunctival sac, six times a day. No doctor consultation is needed for up to 5 days of use — if symptoms persist beyond that, it's worth getting checked out.
A few practical notes:
- Soft contact lenses should not be worn during treatment — the preservative (benzalkonium chloride) can be absorbed by soft lens material
- Temporary blurred vision for up to 20 minutes after application is normal — avoid driving or operating machinery until it clears
- Once opened, the bottle can be used for up to 4 weeks
When to See a Doctor
If dry eye is a recurring or worsening problem, it's worth a proper evaluation — chronic dry eye can have underlying causes that benefit from targeted treatment, and in some cases it's a sign of a broader condition worth investigating.
