Silicone cover designed for healing hypertrophic and keloid scars. The shape of the strips is adapted especially to the scars after the caesarean section or to the scars of the elongated shape.

Askina Scar Repair is a thin, flexible, non-sterile, reusable cover. It is intended for the healing of hypertrophic and keloid scars. It is also suitable for use on closed wounds to prevent hypertrophic or keloid scarring after surgery.

The strips have a shape of 2 × 14 cm and are therefore particularly suitable for elongated scars, eg after a caesarean section.

What is a hypertrophic scar?

The hypertrophic scar is the result of an abnormal process of scar healing, in which there is an increased production of collagen, which accumulates under the skin. Scar healing is affected by many factors (depth, size, location of the scar on the body, skin color, etc.). Age also plays a role. Did you know that the younger you are, the higher your risk of developing a hypertrophic scar? This is due to higher collagen production.

What can you do to avoid the risk of abnormal scarring?

Daily wear of a soft silicone cover guarantees optimal skin hydration, which is one of the most important factors in preventing abnormal collagen fusion.

Do you know how to properly care for your wound and scar after a caesarean section?

The sutured wound should be cleaned daily to prevent infection and covered with a suitable wound dressing. Redness, excessive pain or inflammation could be symptoms of an inflammatory process. If you experience these symptoms, contact your doctor immediately. In most cases, around day 10, your doctor will remove your stitches (unless the wound exudes).

The process of scar healing

In the first weeks, you may feel tension / stiffness and itching, and your scar may be red and raised. At this early stage of scar maturation, a complex tissue regeneration process occurs, involving intensive collagen synthesis.

The normal result of scar healing is a pale / light pink scar at the same height (aligned) as the skin. If this process is disrupted, which may be influenced by genetic or physiological factors, there is a risk of formation / formation of a hypertrophic scar. In this case, we recommend that you consider using a silicone cover.

Advantages of using silicone cover

  • By using the cover, you prevent excessive scar tissue formation
  • The coating reduces redness, itching and a feeling of tension
  • Also developed to soften old scars * and improve skin elasticity
  • Easy to use:
    • Thin and comfortable
    • It can be used on different parts of the body
  • Economical: washable and reusable without the need for additional fixation
  • Provides UV protection

* The improvement of the condition of the old scar can take from 3 months to one year, depending on the condition of the scar tissue.

For which wounds is it appropriate to use Askina Scar Repair?

For best results, Askina should be used as soon as the wound is completely closed. It is at this early stage of scar remodeling that you can positively influence its healing.

  • Closed wounds after surgery
  • Closed wounds after an accident
  • Closed wound after caesarean section
  • Burns after reepithelialization

Askina Scar Repair step by step application

Choose a suitable size of cover so that it covers the entire surface of the scar with an overlap of at least 1 cm over the edge of the scar. When using Askina Scar Repair coatings together with creams or lotions, ensure that the coatings extend beyond the painted surface to ensure sufficient adhesion. If the scar requires more than one cover, they should be placed side by side without overlapping.

  • Open the package and remove the cover
  • The cover can be cut to the required size if needed.
  • Askina Scar Repair should be worn 24 hours a day, removed once a day during showering or bathing to check and wash the skin. The cover itself does not need to be washed.
  • Under normal conditions, one Askina Scar Repair coating can be used for 3 to 7 days, or as long as the adhesive is sufficient to keep the coating in place.
  • As a precaution, Askina Scar Repair should be used for 2 to 6 months, depending on the condition of the scar.

Askina Scar Repair cover is waterproof and can be worn when bathing and showering or swimming. It can be easily removed without causing injury.

Preventive safety measures

Do not stretch the cover during application, as stress can cause skin injuries and peeling of the cover in the corners. To prevent skin irritation and ensure good adhesion, make sure that the skin is clean, free of soap and cream and thoroughly dried before applying the cover.

Do not use if package is damaged or opened before first use.

Contraindication

  • If you experience symptoms of irritation or infection, or the scar condition worsens unexpectedly, contact your doctor.
  • Use caution in case of known silicone allergy.
  • The product cannot be used on open or infected wounds.
