PAVO SOS Kit for foals

PAVO SOS Kit for foals

PAVO

  • $205.50

A survival kit for a newborn foal vital for orphaned foals and foals whose mothers do not have enough colostrum to be given within the first 48 hours.
The first milk is called colostrum. This milk contains a high amount of antibodies, which provide foals with protection against infections during the first months of their lives. In case the mare dies during or immediately after birth, we recommend trying to remove as much colostrum from the udder as possible and give it to the foal from a pacifier bottle. If this is not possible, try to find a mare in the immediate vicinity that still has colostrum. If these options fail, we strongly recommend using the Pavo SOS-kit. The Pavo SOS-kit contains basic nutrition for the first 48 hours.

The package contains:
Pavo colostrum - colostrum containing vital antibodies Pavo FoalMilk - a great alternative to mare's milk Suction bottle with pacifier - easy to use.

Instructions for use Pavo SOS-kit

Step 1: preparation of 1 liter of milk for foals (1 liter = 1000 ml)

  • Take a container with a capacity of at least 1 liter
  • Pour 300 ml of cold water into it
  • Add 400 ml of boiling water, this will create 700 ml of water at a temperature of about 60 ° C.
  • Add 1 scoop (= 100 grams) of Pavo Foal Milk powder and mix until completely dissolved
  • While mixing, add 300 ml of cold water. This will create 1 liter of warm milk for the foals (temperature around 40 ° C).

Step 2: preparation of colostrum

  • Add a full sachet of Pavo Colostrum (= 150 grams) to 1 liter of warm foal milk until the colostrum powder is completely dissolved

Step 3: administration of colostrum

  • Prepare a bottle with a pacifier. Cut a small hole in the pacifier so that the foal can suck milk.
  • Administer about 250 ml of warm colostrum (about 40 ° C) every hour using a pacifier bottle.

Repeat steps 1 to 3 to prepare the second Pavo Colostrum sachet. After administering the second bag of colostrum, feed the foal only with foal milk according to the following instructions:

Try giving the foal a small amount of milk very often (horses: 18 times 400 ml at the same time, ponies 18 times 240 ml at the same time)

Preparation tips

  • Use the Pavo SOS kit immediately after the foal is born if there are any problems with the mare's milk (preferably within the first 3 hours, not later than 12 hours after birth)
  • To be absolutely sure, have the foal examined by a veterinarian within 24 hours of birth.
  • We recommend heating the milk or keeping it warm using the "au bain marie" method. The "au bain marie" method is heating something in or over hot water. This method prevents precipitation and overheating.
  • Never use the microwave   to heat colostrum. The antibodies contained in it would lose their protective properties due to the high temperature. You can heat the milk for foals in the microwave.
