Key role in defense – the oral microbiome

Mouth, nose and throat are the first entry points for foreign germs. But we have integrated a first important defense system in our mouth: the oral microbiome, also known as oral flora or oral microbiome. These are microorganisms naturally occurring in the mouth, mostly beneficial bacteria that live on the lining of the mouth.

Our oral flora takes on key functions in the mouth and throat. A large variety of different bacteria displaces foreign germs and thus ensures that they do not settle in the mouth. In addition, some types of bacteria in our oral flora can produce special antibodies that specifically attack and eliminate various pathogens.

A healthy oral microbiome consists of around 800 to 1,000 different types of bacteria. Our lifestyle in particular has an influence on the oral microbiome: Unhealthy nutrition, medication or strong fluctuations in the pH value within the oral cavity, for example due to high-sugar food, can influence the oral microbiome and reduce both the diversity and the number of beneficial bacteria. As a result, an imbalance occurs, a so-called dysbiosis, which means that our oral microbiome can no longer fully fulfill its tasks.

Supporting the oral microbiome through healthy nutrition, maintaining a neutral pH value in the oral cavity and the targeted supplementation of the oral flora with beneficial bacteria naturally occurring in the mouth and throat makes sense, especially in combination with vitamin D: Because vitamin D contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system and is important for the process of cell division. This is important for the cells of the oral mucosa, because their frequent regeneration is important in order to maintain the function of the oral mucosa as a barrier against unwanted germs.

How does OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND work?

OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND contains the bacterial strain Streptococcus salivarius K12, which occurs naturally in the oral cavity and has been verified in many studies. Supplemented with vitamin D, OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND makes a valuable contribution to the normal function of the immune system in children and adults.

The sugar-free lozenge with a fruity strawberry flavor was specially developed for children.

How is OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND used?

Children from 3 years 1 x daily OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND lozenge,
adults 2 x daily 1 OMNi-BiOTiC® iMMUND lozenge slowly dissolve in the mouth.

It is recommended to use it before going to bed. The lozenge can be used immediately after brushing your teeth.
