Betadine 100 mg/ml is a skin disinfectant, it has antimicrobial effects. It works on bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. It is suitable for local disinfection of skin and mucous membranes. Betadine is used to disinfect wounds and to disinfect intact skin , to disinfect the skin before injection, blood collection, infusion or transfusion, or for total or partial disinfection before surgery. Betadine solution is suitable for the treatment of bacterial and fungal skin diseases. Betadine can be used by adults, adolescents and children from 6 months. Newborns and infants under 6 months only on doctor's recommendation.
Dosage
Betadine can be used either concentrated (undiluted) or diluted with water at a ratio of 1:10 or 1:100. It is always diluted just before use and the solution should be used as soon as possible. The diluted solution cannot be stored. It is used once or several times a day to treat wounds. Do not use Betadine for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor.
Ingredients
The active substance is povidone iodinatum 100 mg in 1 ml of aqueous solution (equivalent to a 10% solution).
Other ingredients are glycerol 85%, nonoxynol 9, citric acid, sodium hydrogen phosphate, purified water, sodium hydroxide solution (for pH adjustment).
Notice
The dark brown color of the Betadine skin solution is a sign of its effectiveness. If the solution begins to discolor, its antimicrobial effectiveness decreases. Decomposition of the solution is supported by light and temperatures above 40 °C.
