Betadine 75 mg/ml is a skin disinfectant, it has antimicrobial effects. It works on bacteria, fungi, viruses and protozoa. It is used for hygienic hand disinfection and for pre-operative hand disinfection in adults.
Dosage
Betadine 75 mg/ml is used concentrated, it is not diluted before use.
Hygienic hand disinfection: Wash hands and forearms under running warm water, then pour 5 ml of solution into one palm and spread evenly on hands and forearms. Wash hands for at least 1 minute, then rinse hands and forearms with plenty of warm running water.
Pre-operative hand disinfection: Wash hands and forearms with soap under running lukewarm water, rinse thoroughly. Using the dispenser, pour 10 ml of the solution into one palm and spread evenly on the hand and forearm. Wash hands for 2.5 minutes, then rinse hands and forearms with plenty of running lukewarm water. Repeat the procedure once more. Finally, rinse hands and forearms thoroughly with sterile water and dry with a sterilized cloth. The time required for disinfection is therefore 5 minutes with a total of 20 ml of the preparation.
Ingredients
The active substance is povidone iodinatum 75 mg (equivalent to 7.5% solution) in 1 ml of solution.
Other ingredients are: nonoxynol 9, lauric acid diolamide, ethoxylated sheep wool fat, hypromellose, purified water, sodium hydroxide solution.
Notice
The dark brown color of the Betadine skin solution is a sign of its effectiveness. If the solution begins to discolor, its antimicrobial effectiveness decreases. Decomposition of the solution is supported by light and temperatures above 40 °C. not intended for use in children.
