Darmol 16 tablets

Darmol tablets are a medicine for short-term use in occasional constipation.

Darmol tablets consist of a chocolate base in which the laxative active ingredients of senna leaves (sennosides) are incorporated. Darmol stimulates intestinal activity, leads to a softening of the stool through increased water release into the large intestine and thus makes it easier to empty the stool.

Contraindications

Darmol tablets should not be taken

• if you are allergic to dry senna leaf extract or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
• in acute inflammatory diseases of the intestine (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis)
• in intestinal obstruction, intestinal constriction and intestinal paralysis
• in appendicitis
• abdominal pain of unknown cause
• in severe disorders of the water and electrolyte balance (potassium deficiency)
• by children under the age of 12
• pregnancy and breast feeding period

interactions

With chronic use / abuse, potassium deficiency can increase the effect of cardiac glycosides (means to strengthen the heart muscle) as well as an interaction with antiarrhythmics (means for the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias) and drugs used for cardioversion (e.g. quinidine) as well as with drugs that can lead to QT prolongation (changes in the conduction of impulses in the heart). Potassium losses can be increased by the simultaneous use of diuretics (water pills), adrenocorticoids or liquorice root.

Taking Darmol tablets with food and drink
Taking licorice root and Darmol tablets can possibly upset your salt balance.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Darmol tablets should not be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

application

The recommended dose is: Adults and adolescents over 12 years: 1/4 – 1/2 tablets. Maximum daily dose: 1 / 2 tablets.

Use in children under the age of 12
Children under the age of 12 should not take Darmol tablets.

To take.
It is usually taken with a glass of water (approx. 1 / 4 liter) before going to bed. Defecation occurs 6 to 12 hours after ingestion.

The dose required for a safe effect can vary. The smallest dose that results in stool with a soft, non-consistant consistency should always be used.

It is usually sufficient to use Darmol tablets only 2 to 3 times a week.

If the symptoms worsen or do not improve after 1-2 weeks, a doctor must be consulted. Use longer than 1-2 weeks should only be done under medical supervision.

side effects

Ingestion can cause abdominal pain, cramps, and diarrhea, especially in people with irritable bowel syndrome. However, these symptoms generally occur as a result of an individual overdose, so that in these cases a dose reduction is necessary.

Chronic use can lead to disturbances in the water and electrolyte balance and the appearance of protein and blood in the urine. In addition, chronic use can result in pigmentation of the intestinal mucosa (pseudomelanosis coli), which usually disappears after the preparation has been discontinued. Yellow or red-brown discolouration of the urine may occur during treatment, but this is of no clinical significance.

Information about the frequency of occurrence of side effects cannot be given.

1 tablet contains dry extract of senna leaves, extractant methanol 75% v/v, adjusted to a content of 47.5 – 52.5% hydroxyanthracene derivatives (calculated as sennoside B) corresponding to 48 mg hydroxyanthracene derivatives per tablets.
