Fenivir 1% TINTED cold sore cream 2 gr

Fenivir is a beige to light brown cream used to treat cold sores (herpes labialis) caused by herpes simplex. The cream should be used as soon as possible if discomfort occurs, if the lips begin to “tingle” and/or if swelling/blisters begin to form. It should not be used if crusts have formed. If you don't feel better or feel worse after 4 days, contact your doctor.

Fenivir inhibits the ability of the herpes simplex virus to multiply. Recovery time, duration of pain and visible signs of the virus are reduced by up to 24 hours.

Contraindications

Fenivir must not be used

• if you are allergic to penciclovir or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
• if you are known to be hypersensitive to famciclovir. 

Interactions

It is unlikely that the effect of treatment will be affected if Fenivir Cream is used at the same time as other medications. 

Pregnancy and breast-feeding If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Pregnancy
Experience with use during pregnancy is limited.

Breastfeeding
There is no information as to whether the active ingredient passes into breast milk.

Fenivir contains cetostearyl alcohol
Fenivir contains cetostearyl alcohol, which can cause localized skin irritation (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Application

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

Adults and adolescents over 12 years of age
Use as soon as possible after the first symptoms of the disease appear (e.g. tingling, itching). Some people do not notice these symptoms. However, Fenivir cream can still be used when the first swellings/blisters have appeared.

1. Please wash hands before and after applying the cream.
2. Squeeze a small amount of cream onto your fingertip.
3. Apply the cream every 2 hours during the day for 4 days.

If treatment is scheduled around meals, you should use the cream after eating.

It may take some time for the cream to start working. Continue using the cream even if the cold sore does not improve immediately. Use the cream for 4 days unless you have received other instructions from your doctor.

Use in children
Fenivir cream must not be used in children under 12 years of age.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.

Common (may affect up to 1 in 10 people):
Reactions to the areas of skin being treated, such as burning sensations, pain or numbness.

Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the data)
Hypersensitivity, hives and allergic dermatitis (e.g. rash, itching, blisters and swelling).

composition

The active ingredient is 10 mg/g penciclovir (1%).

The other ingredients are white petroleum jelly, liquid paraffin, cetostearyl alcohol, propylene glycol, macrogol cetyl stearyl ether 1000, red and yellow iron oxide (E172) and purified water.
