Potassium iodide protects the thyroid gland. It is given after a radiation accident to prevent the uptake of radioactive iodine by the thyroid gland.
When exposed to radioactive iodine, potassium iodide can prevent thyroid damage by saturating the thyroid with non-radioactive iodine. This prevents the intake of radioactive iodine from contaminated air, water, milk or food.

The pack contains 4 tablets.

Dosage and method of use

Newborns up to 1 month of age take a quarter of the tablet.
Children from 1 month to 3 years take half a tablet.
Children from 3 years to 12 years take 1 tablet.
Children from 12 years of age and adults take 2 tablets.

Iodine tablets can only be used in the event of a nuclear accident and at the request of a designated authority, eg from the radio or television. Do not take the tablets at your own discretion.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.
For the best possible protection, it is necessary to take the tablets as soon as possible after notification of the release of radioactive iodine. Subsequent use may result in reduced efficacy.
In case of prolonged exposure to radioactive iodine leakage, repeated administration is necessary.
Pregnant and breast-feeding women can take a maximum of 2 doses (ie 2 times 2 tablets). Talk to your doctor, as potassium iodide may affect your child's thyroid function, which may require examination or appropriate treatment.
Iodine tablets are not usually recommended for people over 40 years of age, as there is no increased risk of thyroid cancer due to exposure to radioactive iodine at this age.

Ingredients

The active substance is potassium iodide 65 mg per tablet.
The other ingredients are: microcrystalline cellulose, talc, macrogol 6 000, colloidal anhydrous, silica.

Contraindication

Children, pregnant and lactating women should only use it in consultation with a doctor.
The product is not recommended for people over 40 years of age.
