Chia seeds (Hispanic sage seeds) are a rich source of omega-3 and 6 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, protein and fiber.
Detailed product information
Chia support normal digestion, have a glycemic index of 2.8, so they are also suitable for people with elevated blood sugar and because of gluten-free, celiacs can consume them without any problems.
But they also contain twice as much fiber than cereal flakes, three times as much iron as spinach, five times more calcium than milk and fifteen times more magnesium than broccoli. In addition, there are a number of other trace elements, vitamins and especially 26% omega 3 and 6 fatty acids.
An invaluable feature is that the seeds bind water to each other. After soaking in water or another liquid, after about 15 minutes, a gel wrap is formed around each seed. This feature is particularly important for endurance athletes, because the seeds keep water in the body and provide for a gradual and regular hydration of the body with longer physical stress, but also releases omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids.
The seeds have a neutral taste and are suitable for direct consumption. But it is possible to add them, for example, to yoghurt, curd, mash, desserts, salads, or they can be used as a thickener for soups and sauces. Confectioners and bakers use their properties to bind themselves to water, so they add them to their products, which remain more supple for longer.
