The active ingredient guaifenesin contained in BRONCHOSTOP® guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops liquefies the tough bronchial mucus, making it easier to cough up and relieving the urge to cough. In addition, guaifenesin has an antispasmodic effect on the muscles of the airways (bronchial muscles).

Contraindications

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% Acute Cough Drops should not be taken
if you are allergic to guaifenesin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
if you suffer from severe and chronic gastrointestinal diseases
during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
by children under 6 years of age

interactions

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops can increase the effect of the following medicines:
sedatives (so-called sedative medicines)
muscle-relaxing medicines (means to reduce muscle tension, e.g. in the case of anesthesia during an operation)

Taking medicines that suppress the urge to cough at the same time can impede coughing up mucus from the bronchi. This combination should therefore be avoided.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
As there are too few clear data available, BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops should not be taken during pregnancy as a precautionary measure.
Since it is not known whether guaifenesin passes into breast milk, breastfeeding women should not take the preparation for safety reasons.

BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops contain alcohol
This medicinal product contains 56% by volume ethanol (alcohol), ie up to 880 mg per dose for adults and adolescents from 12 to 18 years of age, equivalent to 22.4 ml beer or 9.4 ml wine, or up to 440 mg of ethanol per dose for children 6 to 12 years of age, equivalent to 11.2 ml of beer or 4.7 ml of wine.
There is a health risk for patients suffering from alcoholism. The alcohol content should be taken into account in pregnant and breastfeeding women, as well as in children and patients at increased risk due to liver disease or epilepsy.

application

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Dosage
The recommended dose is:

Adults and adolescents from 12 to 18 years:
35 to 70 drops up to 4 times a day

Children from 6 to 12 years:
up to 4 times a day up to 35 drops

Children under 6 years of age:
Due to the lack of experience and the alcohol content, use in this age group is not recommended.

Method of administration:
For oral use.
Take the drops with water or tea or a piece of sugar. In addition to taking the drug, it is advisable to drink plenty of fluids (e.g. in the form of tea, fruit juice, etc.). Hold the vial upright while counting the drops.

Duration of use:
Self-treatment with BRONCHOSTOP® Guaifenesin 10% acute cough drops should be limited to 5 days. If there is still no significant improvement, please speak to your doctor. The maximum duration of treatment is 2 weeks.

side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

The most serious side effects associated with guaifenesin are hypersensitivity reactions. Very rarely, signs of an allergic reaction may include, but are not limited to, swelling of the face, lips or tongue, difficulty swallowing or breathing, or a rash. If one of these complaints is perceived, a doctor must be consulted immediately, who will decide on further measures.

The evaluation of side effects is based on the following frequency information:

Very common: may affect more than 1 in 10 people.
Common: may affect 1 in 10 people
Uncommon: may affect 1 in 100 people
Rare: may affect 1 in 1,000 people
Very rare: may affect 1 in 10,000 people.
Not known: frequency cannot be estimated from the available data.

Rare: Gastrointestinal complaints, e.g. in the form of gastric pressure

Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions (decreased heartbeat, spasm of the airways, shortness of breath), slowed heartbeat (bradycardia), usually as a result of a hypersensitivity reaction, reduction in the number of certain white blood cells (granulocytopenia), tiredness, dizziness, confusion, reduced ability to react, nausea and vomiting (usually at very high doses), allergic reactions (such as redness, itching)

The other ingredients are: thyme oil, peppermint oil, neohesperidin dihydrochalcone (E959), purified water, ethanol
