Grippostad Acute contains the active ingredients acetylsalicylic acid and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
Grippostad Acute is used for the symptomatic treatment of swelling of the mucous membranes of the nose and paranasal sinuses in the case of a cold (rhinosinusitis) with pain and fever as part of a cold or a flu-like infection.
If you only have one of the above complaints, treatment with a preparation that contains only one active ingredient is preferable.
If your symptoms worsen or do not improve after 3 days, you need to talk to a doctor.
Grippostad Acute is intended for use in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and over.

Contraindications

DO NOT take Grippostad Akut if you

  • are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid, salicylates (a group of medicines used to treat pain or inflammation that includes acetylsalicylic acid), pseudoephedrine or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6)
  • Have a history of asthma caused by treatment with salicylates or substances with a similar effect (so-called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs).
  • suffering from stomach ulcers,
  • have an increased tendency to bleed
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding,
  • have liver or kidney failure,
  • suffer from severe heart failure
  • are simultaneously taking 15 mg or more methotrexate per week (a drug used, for example, to treat joint inflammation and tumours),
  • have very high blood pressure
  • have severe disease of the arteries of the heart (severe coronary artery disease)
  • are taking (or have taken within the last 2 weeks) certain medicines used to treat depression called monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors.

interactions

The following medicines may affect or be affected by Grippostad:

  • Medicines that thin the blood and stop it from clotting, e.g. ticlopidine,
  • Medicines to treat inflammation, such as cortisone or prednisolone, when taken by mouth or by injection
  • digoxin: a medicine used to treat heart failure (weak heart or irregular heartbeat),
  • Group of medicines used to treat pain, inflammation and rheumatism, such as ibuprofen or diclofenac. Taking multiple painkillers at the same time increases the risk of permanent kidney damage.
  • Medicines to lower blood sugar (antidiabetics),
  • Methotrexate: a medicine used to treat severe joint inflammation, tumors and psoriasis. Please follow the advice given in the section “DO NOT take Grippostad Acute”.
  • valproic acid: a medicine used to treat epilepsy and disorders associated with high mood and depressed mood,
  • Medicines to treat depression. Please see the advice in the last bullet point in the “DO NOT take Gripostad Acute” section.
  • Medicines to widen the airways (such as salbutamol tablets). Simultaneous use may cause irregular or faster heartbeats. However, this should not prevent you from using Salbutamol in the prescribed dose using an inhaler.
  • Medicines containing phenylephrine and ephedrine or similar active substances, for example those found in nasal decongestants such as nose drops.

Grippostad Acute can reduce the effect of the following medicines:

  • Medicines used to help remove water from the body and increase urine production (aldosterone antagonists and loop diuretics).
  • antihypertensive drugs (antihypertensives such as guanethidine, methyldopa, ß-blockers).
  • Medicines used to treat gout that increase the elimination of uric acid (e.g. probenecid, sulfinpyrazone).

Ability to drive and use machines

Caution: This medicine can affect your ability to react and drive.
Because Grippostad Akut can affect your ability to react, do not drive or use machines if you have any problems.

application

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended dose for adults and adolescents over 16 years of age is:
Single dose: 1 - 2 sachets.
If necessary, the single dose can be repeated at intervals of 4 - 8 hours. However, you must not exceed the maximum dose of 6 sachets per day. Do not take Grippostad Acute longer than necessary.

Children and adolescents
Do not use in children and adolescents under 16 years of age without medical advice. There are no specific dosing recommendations for children and adolescents (persons under 18 years of age) due to the limited experience with Grippostad Acute.

Method of
administration For oral use.
Add the contents of 1 or 2 sachets of granules to a glass of water and stir well. Note: The granules do not dissolve completely.
Drink the entire glass at once. It can be taken independently of meals.

Duration of use
Do not take this medicine for more than 3 days. Please talk to your doctor if you still have nasal congestion, pain or fever after 3 days of treatment.

side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Possible side effects of acetylsalicylic acid are:
These are all very serious side effects and you may need urgent medical attention or hospitalization. Contact a doctor or the nearest hospital straight away if you notice any of the following:

  • Stomach ulcers, which in isolated cases can lead to perforation of the stomach;
  • Gastrointestinal bleeding, which in isolated cases can lead to iron deficiency anemia. Signs of this are black stools or bloody vomit;
  • Allergic reactions (such as shortness of breath, skin reactions possibly with drop in blood pressure), especially in asthmatics;
  • Hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells) in case of severe glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency;
  • Kidney weakness, kidney failure.

These are all serious side effects and you may need urgent medical attention. Talk to your doctor if you notice any of the following:

  • increased risk of bleeding;
  • Gastrointestinal disorders such as stomach pain, indigestion and gastritis;
  • increase in liver enzymes;
  • dizziness, ringing in the ears (tinnitus).

These are mild side effects:

  • nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Possible side effects of pseudoephedrine include:
These are all serious side effects and you may need urgent medical attention. Talk to your doctor if you notice any of the following:

  • effects on the heart (e.g. rapid heartbeat or irregular heartbeat);
  • urinary retention, especially in patients with enlarged prostate;
  • increase in blood pressure, but not in treated hypertension;
  • Insomnia, rarely hallucinations and other central nervous system stimulation.
  • Effects on the skin (e.g. rash, hives, itching).
  • Serious skin reaction with symptoms such as fever, reddening of the skin and/or small pustules all over the body (acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis).
  • Inflammation of the large intestine due to insufficient blood supply (ischemic colitis).
  • Not known (cannot be estimated from the available data): Reduced blood supply to the optic nerve (ischemic optic neuropathy).

If you notice any of the above side effects, you must stop taking Grippostad immediately.
Tell your doctor so he can assess the severity of the reaction and decide what action to take.

The active substances are acetylsalicylic acid and pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
Each sachet contains 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid and 30 mg pseudoephedrine hydrochloride.
