Grippostad hot drink is an analgesic, antipyretic drug (analgesic and antipyretic).

Grippostad hot drink is used at

  • mild to moderate pain (such as headache, toothache, period pain)
  • Fever and pain associated with colds and flu infections.

Contraindications

Grippostad hot drink must NOT be consumed

  • if you are allergic to the active substance paracetamol or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6).
  • with a certain metabolic disease: hereditary glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency (risk of anemia - haemolytic anemia)
  • with pronounced liver and kidney dysfunction
  • with excessive or chronic alcohol consumption
  • of children under 12 years of age and patients with a body weight under 43 kg, since Grippostad hot drink powder cannot be dosed according to weight.

interactions

Interactions are possible with:

  • Certain medicines used to treat gout (Probenecid): If taken at the same time, the dose of Grippostad Hot Drink should be reduced, as the breakdown of the active ingredient paracetamol in Grippostad Hot Drink may be slowed down.
  • Medicines which, due to their properties, have an effect on the liver, such as: medicines for tuberculosis (rifampicin) or medicines for epilepsy, as well as other medicines that may damage the liver. There is an increased risk of liver damage if taken at the same time as Grippostad hot drink.
  • Certain antibiotics = medicines against infections (chloramphenicol): If Grippostad hot drink and chloramphenicol are given at the same time, the breakdown of the antibiotic can be delayed (increased side effects possible).
  • Medicines that accelerate gastric emptying, such as metoclopramide (a medicine used to treat nausea): may accelerate the absorption and onset of action of Grippostad hot drink.
  • Certain medicines for pain and fever (salicylamide): can lead to delayed elimination of Grippostad hot drink.
  • Anticoagulants such as warfarin and fluindione (anticoagulants): Repeated intake of Grippostad hot drink for more than a week increases the effect of anticoagulants.
  • Certain substances used to lower high levels of fat in the blood (colestyramine): can reduce the absorption and thus the effectiveness of the Grippostad hot drink.
  • Drugs that slow down gastric emptying, such as propantheline, may delay the absorption and onset of action of Grippostad Hot Drink.
  • Medicines used to treat HIV infection (zidovudine): The tendency to have a reduction in the number of white blood cells (neutropenia) is increased. Grippostad hot drink should therefore only be taken at the same time as zidovudine on medical advice.
  • Certain medicines for gastrointestinal ulcers (nizatidine): lead to increased blood levels of the active ingredient paracetamol.
  • Certain medicines for gastrointestinal complaints (cisapride): increase the availability of the active ingredient paracetamol in the body.
  • Lamotrigine (certain medicine for epilepsy or depression): Simultaneous administration of Grippostad hot drink and lamotrigine leads to reduced availability of lamotrigine.

Taking Grippostad hot drink with food, drink and alcohol
Grippostad hot drink must not be taken with alcohol. 

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Pregnancy
Grippostad hot drink should only be taken during pregnancy after careful consideration of the risk/benefit ratio and in the lowest possible dose. Your doctor will therefore decide whether to use it during pregnancy. You should not take Grippostad hot drink during pregnancy for a long time, in higher doses or in combination with other medicines, as the safety of use in these cases has not been proven.

Breast- feeding
Paracetamol passes into breast milk. Since adverse consequences for the infant have not yet become known, it is not usually necessary to interrupt breastfeeding if the product is used for a short period of time. However, the dosage should be kept as low as possible and the duration of use should be kept as short as possible.

Grippostad hot drink contains sucrose (sugar) and aspartame

Saccharose:
Please only take Grippostad Hot Drink after consulting your doctor if you know that you suffer from an intolerance to certain sugars.

Note for diabetics: This drug is suitable for diabetics. 1 sachet contains 3.8 g sucrose corresponding to approx. 0.32 bread units (BE).

Aspartame:
Grippostad hot drink contains aspartame as a source of phenylalanine and may be harmful if you have a certain inborn error of metabolism (phenylketonuria).

application

In principle, painkillers should be dosed as little as is necessary for a sufficient effect and only used for as long as necessary in order to keep the risk of undesirable effects occurring as low as possible.

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you

agreement on. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Adults and adolescents 12 years and older (and weighing at least 43 kg) take 1 sachet as a single dose.

The time interval between two intakes should be at least 6 hours. A single dose of 1 sachet must not be exceeded.

The maximum daily dose of 3 sachets/day at intervals of 6 - 8 hours must not be exceeded.

Children under the age of 12 or people weighing less than 43 kg
Grippostad hot drink powder is not suitable for children under the age of 12 or people weighing less than 43 kg, as it cannot be dosed according to weight. Other suitable dosage forms with a lower active ingredient content are available for them. Please consult your doctor about this.

Elderly (65 years and older)
No specific dose adjustment is required based on age. In the case of underweight and organ dysfunction, see the relevant information.

Patients with liver and/or kidney dysfunction
Grippostad hot drink should only be taken in patients with mild liver and/or kidney dysfunction and Gilbert's syndrome (an inherited disease) on medical advice. The dose must be reduced or the dose interval (= the time interval between two doses) extended.

Type of application
The contents of the sachet are poured into a cup, filled with hot water, stirred well and drunk hot.

Taking it after meals may delay the onset of action.

Duration of use
The duration of use should be limited to the duration of the illness.
Do not take Grippostad hot drink for more than 3 days without medical or dental advice. If symptoms persist for more than 3 days, a doctor must be consulted.

Please talk to your doctor if you have the impression that the effect of Grippostad hot drink is too strong or too weak.

side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Blood and lymphatic system disorders

Very rare: Changes in the blood picture such as a reduction in the number of blood platelets (thrombocytopenia), a severe reduction in the number of certain white blood cells (leucopenia, agranulocytosis), a reduction in all blood cells (pancytopenia); certain disorders of the red blood pigment (methaemoglobinemia).

Immune system disorders
Very rare: asthma, hay fever, swelling of the nasal mucosa, allergic reactions from simple reddening of the skin or nettle rash (urticaria), swelling of the face, shortness of breath, outbreaks of sweating, nausea, drop in blood pressure through to a shock reaction with circulatory failure.
In sensitive people, an asthma-like narrowing of the airways (analgesic asthma) can very rarely be triggered.
Very rarely, severe skin reactions with blistering (Stevens-Johnson syndrome and Lyell's syndrome) have occurred in connection with Grippostad hot drink.

Hepatobiliary
disorders Rare: increase in certain liver values ​​(serum transaminases).
Severe liver damage can occur with prolonged use, high doses or regular use of Grippostad hot drink.

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders:
Rare: allergic reactions (simply reddening of the skin, nettle rash (urticaria), damage to the mucous membranes)
Very rare: serious skin reactions with blistering (Steven-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis = Lyell's syndrome, acute generalized pustular exanthema)

Diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract
Disorders of the kidney function can occur with prolonged use, high dosage or regular use of Grippostad hot drink.

Tests
The determination of uric acid and blood sugar can be affected.

Significant side effects or signs you should look out for and measures to be taken if you are affected
At the first sign of a hypersensitivity reaction (e.g. breathing difficulties, skin reaction) Grippostad hot drink must not be taken again and you must immediately call the nearest doctor for help.
