Phenylephrine has a decongestant effect by constricting the blood vessels in the nasal mucosa and in the adjacent area of the pharynx, thereby facilitating free nasal breathing. Dimetindene maleate is a so-called "antihistamine" that reduces excessive secretion and relieves the annoying urge to sneeze.

When is Vibrocil used?

  • for acute colds to reduce swelling of the nasal mucosa and limit the "running of the nose"
  • in the event of a sudden worsening of a chronic, allergic (e.g. hay fever) and nervous cold
  • for sinus infections as an additional treatment

Vibrocil nasal spray is used in children from 6 years of age, adolescents and adults.

Contraindications

Vibrocil Nasal Spray should not be used

  • with a dry runny nose.
  • for chronic colds that have led to a thinning of the nasal mucosa.
  • Like other decongestants, Vibrocil must not be used after operations in the nose and ear area (removal of the pituitary gland or surgical interventions in which the meninges have been exposed).
  • if you are taking MAO inhibitors (medicines against depression), also within the last 14 days.
  • in severe organic heart diseases.
  • with glaucoma (narrow-angle glaucoma).
  • in children under 6 years of age.

interactions

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or might take/use any other medicines.

The effect of Vibrocil on the entire organism can be increased by certain mood-enhancing drugs (MAO inhibitors also within the last 14 days, tricyclic or tetracyclic antidepressants), especially in the event of an overdose. See also "Do not use Vibrocil nasal drops".

Phenylephrine can reduce the effectiveness of beta-blockers and antihypertensive drugs. This can increase the risk of high blood pressure and other side effects of the heart and vascular system. If beta-blockers are taken at the same time, the amount of Vibrocil should be kept as low as possible, since in very rare cases temporary shortness of breath due to narrowing of the lower airways can occur.

Pregnancy, lactation and fertility

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine. As a precaution, Vibrocil should not be used during pregnancy and breastfeeding as there is insufficient experience
