EMLA works by numbing the surface of the skin for a short time. It is used on the skin before certain medical procedures. It helps to induce a temporary loss of pain sensation on the skin, yet you may feel pressure or touch in that area.
Adults, adolescents and children
The product can be used to numb the skin before:
- By injecting an injection needle (e.g. before an injection during vaccination or blood sampling).
- Smaller performances on the skin.
Adults
The product can also be used to numb the skin before:
- By cleaning and removing dead skin from leg ulcers
Ingredients:
- Active ingredient: lidocaine and prilocaine
- Excipients: carbomer 974 P, glyceromacrogol-hydroxystearate, sodium hydroxide and purified water
Method of preparation/use:
- The cream is applied to the skin in a thick layer. Follow the instructions in the package leaflet or your doctor or nurse's instructions. In some cases, the cream only needs to be applied by a doctor or nurse.
- Then cover the cream with an impermeable bandage (plastic film). The bandage is removed before the actual performance. If you apply the cream yourself, make sure you get a dressing from your doctor, pharmacist or nurse.
- The recommended dose for adults and adolescents from 12 years of age is 2 g (grams).
- For adults and adolescents from 12 years of age, the cream is applied at least 60 minutes before the procedure.
