B.Braun Askina Calgitrol Paste 100 g

Askina Calgitrol Paste is a sterile coating consisting of an alginate matrix with ionic silver in the form of a paste, with broad antimicrobial activity, which helps defend against contamination by bacteria from the external environment. When exuding from the wound, the alginate paste with silver maintains a moist environment in the wound, aiding the natural healing process.

What type of wounds should Askina Calgitrol Paste use?

Askina Calgitrol Paste is indicated for the treatment of wounds affecting the surface or the entire thickness of the skin, pressure lesions of grade I - IV, venous, arterial and neuropathic ulcers, second degree burns and sites of skin graft collection.

It is indicated for external use only and may be used under medical supervision to treat infected wounds.

Contraindication

Askina Calgitrol Paste should not be used:

• in patients with known hypersensitivity to alginates or to silver,
• in cases where the presence of metals is contraindicated,
• in ulcers caused by infection such as tuberculosis, syphilis, deep fungal infection or third degree burns.

Safety information

Do not use if the tube is damaged or if it has been tampered with the outer protective foil before first use. Do not use if the can is damaged or if the protective tape around the lid has been tampered with before first use.

How to apply Askina Calgitrol Paste?

Askina Calgitrol Paste is very easy to use and does not require any special knowledge or equipment. The contents of the tube are for use in one patient only. If you put the cap back on after opening, Askina Calgitrol Paste can be stored and used within 7 days.

• Skin preparation

Use sterile swabs to clean the wound with sterile saline (0.9% NaCl) or a suitable wound cleanser, such as Prontosan, and dry the skin around the wound.

• Application of Askina Calgitrol Paste cover in a 100g tube

Shake the tube before use, then remove the tube from the outer protective foil and remove the tube cap. Apply a thick layer of paste to the entire surface of the wound bed and cover with a suitable secondary dressing depending on the amount of exudate.

• Replacement of cover

Remove the fixation and / or secondary dressing, gently rinse the wound with sterile saline (0.9% NaCl) or Prontosan solution , continue to thoroughly clean the wound until all traces of Askina Calgitrol Paste have been removed. Follow the steps above to apply a new coat. Askina Calgitrol Paste should be changed at each dressing change (daily or at intervals of up to 3 days depending on the condition of the wound) or if the wound exudate leaks from the secondary dressing.

Special notice

In the initial phase of treatment with Askina Calgitrol Paste, the wound may appear to enlarge. This phenomenon is normal and occurs by cleaning the edges of the wound from the remnants of dead tissue and secretions. This facilitates the wound healing process. Askina Calgitrol Paste helps in the treatment of moderately secreting wounds only by creating an environment suitable for healing. In some cases, the healing process can be disrupted by changes in overall health. Under these circumstances, the results of treatment with Askina Calgitrol Paste alone may be negligible or non-existent and the underlying disease should be treated appropriately. If treatment with Askina Calgitrol Paste does not improve after 4 weeks, the original diagnosis and the whole treatment should be re-evaluated in accordance with the general principles of wound treatment.

Warning

Use of the contents of this product for more than 7 days or for multiple patients poses a potential risk to the patient or user. May lead to contamination and / or impaired functionality. Contamination and / or impaired functionality can cause injury, illness, or death to the patient. Caution should be exercised when the coating is used with another composition containing silver to avoid the possible additive effect of silver. The product is sterile before first use, unless the package is damaged or opened.
