B.Braun Prontosan Wound gel 30 ml

B. Braun Prontosan gel is a hydrogel for cleaning, decontaminating and moisturizing acute, chronic and infected skin wounds or 1st and 2nd degree burns. Prevents biofilm formation.

With the help of Prontosan gel for wounds, you remove impurities, germs from the wound and retain moisture in the wound. This will prevent the infection and support the healing process.  Prontosan  wound gel contains a combination of the antimicrobial polyhexanide and the surfactant betaine .

When to use Prontosan gel for wounds?

For cleaning, humidification and decontamination:

1. acute uninfected and infected wounds: traumatic wounds, eg lacerations, abrasions or stab wounds (if suturing is indicated, Prontosan Wound Gel should be applied after surgery).
2. chronic uninfected and infected wounds (especially damaged and hard to reach wounds), including arterial and venous ulcers, diabetic ulcers and pressure ulcers).
3. Postoperative wounds.
4. Thermal, chemical and radiation burns (1st and 2nd degree).

 Prontosan gel is an effective barrier to limit microbial penetration through the dressing.

How much gel to use?

Depending on the frequency of dressings, different amounts of Prontosan gel are applied to the wounds. The wound surface should be kept moist to ensure adequate cleaning and decontamination. The coatings are gently loosened and removed on the next dressing. The application should be performed frequently enough to promptly remove all coatings and necrosis and for optimal wound bed preparation.

For optimal results, Prontosan Wound Solution should be used to clean the wound and skin around the wound before treatment with Prontosan Wound  Gel. Prontosan  gel for wounds should be applied to the wound bed. Cavities and pockets should be filled with Prontosan  gel for wounds. Wound dressings, gauze, compresses and other absorbent wound fillers may be moistened with Prontosan Wound Gel prior to application  . Prontosan  gel for wounds can remain on the wound until the next dressing.

TIP

Also use Prontosan Wound Solution to moisten the dressing, which may be stuck to the wound. Pour the solution over so that it is sufficiently soaked. Leave on and then gently remove it to avoid traumatization of the wound. This will prevent prolonged wound healing.

Are there contraindications?

Prontosan should not be used:

a) If it is known or suspected that the patient may be allergic to any of the components of the product.
b) On the CNS and meninges.
c) In the middle and inner ear.
d) In the eyes.
e) For hyaline cartilage during aseptic joint surgery. If Prontosan comes into contact with aseptic
cartilage, it should be irrigated immediately with Ringer's solution or saline.
f) In combination with anionic surfactants.
g) In combination with cleansing soaps, ointments, oils, enzymes, etc. These substances must be carefully
removed from the wound before use .

Pregnancy and lactation: There is no evidence of mutagenic or embryonic toxicity associated with the components of this product. Because systemic reabsorption of polihexanide does not occur, transfer to breast milk is unlikely.
