What is propolis?

Propolis is the valuable protective resin of honey bees. The base is collected by bees as a resinous substance from the buds and bark of various trees. Only the most experienced and oldest bees in a colony take on this important task. In the search for suitable plant substances, they proceed very carefully. The collected selection is then additionally refined by the bee with ferment, pollen and wax and thus processed into propolis, a unique natural product. A gentle harvest can produce up to 100 g of propolis per year from a beehive. In order to disturb the life of the bees as little as possible, modern methods make use of the natural behavior of the bees.

Protection from the beehive - the natural alternative

Up to 60,000 bees live and work together in a beehive in a very small space at around 35°C. There is a busy coming and going. Propolis is therefore used by the bees to prevent germs from entering the hive. Not only the entrance hole, but the entire hive is covered with a thin layer of propolis on the inside. More than 300 different natural substances contained in propolis protect the beehive from the spread of diseases - and have been doing so for thousands of years.

The ancient Egyptians already used the wide range of effects of propolis for their health - today it is considered a natural all-rounder. Propolis is used medicinally in Germany, for example in the form of propolis capsules and propolis throat lozenges. The preparations contain plant substances processed by bees and thus contribute in a natural way to strengthening the general condition (propolis capsules) or to alleviating the first sore throat (propolis throat lozenges).
