Bericard drops contain a liquid extract of hawthorn leaves and flowers. The hawthorn is probably an outstanding medicinal plant; the hawthorn preparations made from the leaves and flowers look back on a long tradition. Hawthorn is traditionally used to support heart strength.

Contraindications

BERICARD must not be taken if you are allergic to hawthorn or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.

Interactions

Taking BERICARD with other medicines
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Hawthorn counteracts the decrease in heart rate caused by beta-blockers and potassium antagonists and the possible slowing of heart rate (bradycardia) that can occur with treatment with cardiac glycosides.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

Since there are insufficient data, use during pregnancy and breastfeeding cannot be recommended.

Dosage
The recommended dose for adults is: 15 to 20 drops 2 – 3 times a day.

Use in children and adolescents

Method of use
Bericard drops are taken undiluted, with sugar or diluted with a little water. The effect can be improved if you keep the drops in your mouth for some time.

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone
gets them.

Nausea and rapid heartbeat (tachycardia) have been observed.

The active ingredient is: Hawthorn leaves with flowers - liquid extract
100 g contains 24 g of quantified liquid extract from hawthorn leaves with flowers (drug-extract ratio 1:1; extractant: ethanol 45% by volume).

The other ingredients are: ethanol, propyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E216), methyl 4-hydroxybenzoate (E218), sucrose and purified water.

• 1ml = 0.99g.
• 1 ml contains 0.27 g of ethanol. Alcohol content: 26.9% by weight = 32.7% by volume
• 1 ml corresponds to approximately 20 drops.
