Interactions

Other medicines
and Buscopan plus paracetamol Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines.

Interactions with paracetamol

Ask your doctor for advice before taking Buscopan plus Acetaminophen film-coated tablets if you are taking any of the following medicines at the same time, as these medicines and paracetamol may affect each other's effects and side effects:
medicines that affect liver function, such as barbiturates (anaesthetics), phenobarbital, phenytoin (medicines used to treat epilepsy), glutethimide (sleeping pills and sedatives), carbamazepine (medicines for the treatment of depressive disorders) or certain antibiotics (such as rifampicin) increase the liver-damaging effect of paracetamol – liver damage is then already possible by otherwise harmless doses. This also applies to all other medicines for which possible liver damage is described and to alcohol abuse.
Salicylamide (anti-inflammatory painkiller) causes an increased damaging effect of paracetamol as a result of delayed excretion.
Probenecid (uric acid-lowering drug) reduces paracetamol excretion to about half. If you are taking probenecid at the same time, your doctor will reduce the dose of paracetamol accordingly.
The harmful effect of chloramphenicol (certain antibiotic = medicine for infections) is increased by a delayed excretion of chloramphenicol.
Paracetamol may increase the risk of bleeding in patients taking warfarin and other vitamin K antagonists (medicines used to thin the blood).
Taking flucloxacillin (antibiotic) at the same time can lead to acidification of the blood and the body.
Colestyramine (a medicine used to lower cholesterol) reduces the absorption of paracetamol.
Medicines that slow down gastric emptying can lead to reduced absorption and, as a result, to a delayed onset of the effects of paracetamol. Drugs that cause acceleration of gastric emptying (for example, metoclopramide or domperidone for vomiting and nausea) increase the absorption of paracetamol.
The concomitant use of paracetamol and zidovudine (medicines for HIV infection) makes a reduction in the number of white blood cells (neutropenia) more likely and should only be done on medical advice.

Interactions with hyoscine N-butyl bromide

Ask your doctor for advice before taking Buscopan plus Paracetamol film-coated tablets if you are taking any of the following medicines at the same time, as the effects of these medicines may be enhanced by hyoscine N-butyl bromide:

  • antihistamines (for allergic diseases);
  • Amantadine-containing medicines (for Parkinson's disease);
  • Quinidine- or disopyramide-containing medicines (for cardiac arrhythmias);
  • tri- and tetracyclic antidepressants (for depression);
  • other anticholinergics (e.g. tiotropium, ipratropium – for breathing difficulties or atropine-like agents);
  • antipsychotics (for psychosis);
  • β sympathomimetics (for difficulty breathing).

You should also ask your doctor for advice if you are taking medicines to correct intestinal motility (e.g. medicines containing metoclopramide) at the same time as Buscopan plus paracetamol, as this may reduce the effect of both medicines.

Influencing laboratory tests Paracetamol may interfere with certain laboratory tests
used to determine uric acid levels and blood glucose levels.
Therefore, please inform your doctor about taking Buscopan plus Paracetamol film-coated tablets before laboratory tests.

Taking Buscopan plus paracetamol with food, drink and alcohol
Concomitant alcohol consumption increases the risk of liver damage at normally harmless doses of paracetamol and should therefore be avoided! This is especially true of alcohol abuse.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you think you may be pregnant or intend to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
Taking Buscopan plus paracetamol during pregnancy is not recommended.
The excretion of hyoscine N-butyl bromide, one of the active ingredients of Buscopan plus paracetamol, into breast milk has not been studied. Therefore, the use of Buscopan plus paracetamol during breastfeeding should be avoided as a precaution.

Driving and using machines No studies have been conducted on the effects on the ability to drive and use machines
. However, if taken correctly, no impairments are to be expected in active participation in road traffic or in the operation of machines.
