The active ingredient in Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 soft capsule is clotrimazole, which belongs to the group of imidazoles. Clotrimazole has a broad antifungal effect, meaning it destroys fungi and inhibits their growth. Clotrimazole is also effective against microorganisms such as dermatophytes, yeasts and molds
field of use
Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is used to treat infections of the vagina and external female genital organs caused by microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole. The infections are usually caused by the Candida yeast fungus. Symptoms include itching, burning and discharge.
This medicine is used in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older
Contraindications
Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule must not be used if you are allergic to clotrimazole or any of the other ingredients of this medicine listed in section 6.
Interactions
Tell your doctor immediately if you are taking tacrolimus or sirolimus (medicines for organ transplant rejection).
It is also possible that the concentration of certain medicines increases when treated with Canesten. However, with a 0.5g dose this is unlikely. If you are unsure about using medicines at the same time as Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
As a precautionary measure, clotrimazole should not be used in the first 3 months of pregnancy.
During pregnancy, treatment with the soft capsules must be carried out without the applicator.
For this reason, insert the soft capsule into the vagina with a finger to avoid injury to the cervix.
Breastfeeding
Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is not recommended during breastfeeding. As a precautionary measure, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding for the duration of treatment. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Application
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as your doctor or pharmacist tells you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
Insert one soft capsule for vaginal use deep into the vagina in the evening as a single dose. Treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole 0.5 g soft capsule is not recommended during menstruation.
The treatment must be completed before it begins.
If your partner has symptoms of yeast infections, they should be treated at the same time.
Side effects
Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
Side effects can occur with the following frequencies:

Stop treatment if you have local side effects or allergic reactions.
Local reactions may be similar to the symptoms of the disease. Therefore, it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish the symptoms of infection from the symptoms of side effects caused by the medicine.
