Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3-day set

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 days - combination vaginal tablets and cream are among the antimycotics (agents against fungal diseases) for the treatment of fungal infections of the vagina.

The cream can also be used to treat fungal infections of the glans and foreskin.

It works against pathogens that can cause fungal infections of the vagina and also against some bacteria. The active ingredient clotrimazole contained in Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 Day Combi inhibits the growth of the fungi or kills them.

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 Days - Combi is used to treat:

• Discharge and inflammation of the vagina caused by fungi, mostly Candida species, as well as canesten-sensitive bacteria
• Fungal diseases of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas,
• Inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men, caused by yeast fungi (CandidaBalanitis).

Contraindications

Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 Days - Combi must not be used if you are allergic to clotrimazole or one of the other ingredients of the two preparations mentioned in section 6.

Interactions

If you are taking tacrolimus or sirolimus (medicines for organ transplant rejection or certain skin diseases), you should tell your doctor immediately.

Canesten Clotrimazole should not be used together with other medicines against fungal infections (e.g. amphotericin, nystatin).

Pregnancy, breast-feeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using this medicine.

Pregnancy
There is no indication that use during pregnancy is expected to have harmful effects on mother and child. As a precautionary measure, clotrimazole must not be used in the vagina during the first 3 months of pregnancy.

During pregnancy, treatment with the vaginal tablets should be carried out without the applicator.

Breast-feeding
You should not breast-feed during treatment with Canesten.

Fertility/Childbearing
No studies have been conducted on the effects of clotrimazole on fertility, but animal studies have shown no harmful effects of the drug. 

Important information about certain other ingredients of Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 Days - Combi
Canesten Cream contains cetostearyl alcohol. This can cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis).

Application

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or exactly as discussed with your doctor or pharmacist. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.

How and when should you use Canesten Clotrimazole Gyn 3 days - combination?
The vaginal tablets are inserted as deeply as possible into the vagina once a day - in the evening - for 3 consecutive days. This is best done lying on your back with your legs slightly pulled up.

Note: The vaginal tablets need moisture to dissolve completely. If the vagina is dry, the vaginal tablet may not dissolve completely. This can be seen by the fact that crumbly parts of the tablet are excreted. To prevent this, it is important to insert the tablet as deeply as possible, preferably before going to bed.

If necessary, the treatment can be repeated. However, if symptoms recur within 2 months, you should see your doctor.

Children and adolescents
The vaginal tablets are intended for use in adults. For people under 18 years of age, treatment with vaginal tablets may only be carried out on doctor's orders. There are no data on the safety and effectiveness of Canesten Clotrimazole 3-day combination in children and adolescents.

Cream
The cream is applied thinly to the affected skin areas 1 - 3 times a day and rubbed in. A strand of ointment approximately 1/2 cm long is usually sufficient for an area approximately the size of a palm. In the case of infections of the labia (Candida vulvitis) and adjacent areas of the woman, apply the cream 1-3 times a day to the relevant skin areas (external genitals up to the anus).
The cream is also recommended for the simultaneous treatment of inflammation of the glans and foreskin in men (Candida balanitis) in order to prevent a relapse.

If there is simultaneous inflammation of the external female genitals or a fungal infection of your partner's male organ, you and your partner should receive additional local treatment with Canesten Clotrimazole cream to avoid reinfection.

You should not use tampons, vaginal douches, spermicidal agents, or other vaginal products while being treated with this medication.

In order to achieve long-term success of the treatment, treatment with Canesten clotrimazole vaginal tablets or Canesten clotrimazole cream should not be stopped after the acute symptoms have subsided. 

Side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everyone gets them.
If you notice any side effects, contact your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not listed in this leaflet.

The following side effects are possible, their frequency cannot be estimated based on the available data:
Immune system disorders:
General allergic reactions such as brief fainting (syncope), drop in blood pressure (hypotension), shortness of breath (dyspnea), hives (urticaria)

Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders:
Skin reactions in the treated skin areas such as peeling of the skin in the genital area, itching (pruritus), rash, edema, redness of the skin (erythema), mild pain, burning, irritation, pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding

Gastrointestinal disorders:

The active ingredient is clotrimazole.
Vaginal tablets: 1 vaginal tablet contains 0.2 g clotrimazole.

• The other ingredients are: calcium lactate pentahydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, crospovidone, hypromellose, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, corn starch, colloidal silicon dioxide, lactic acid.
• Cream: 1 g cream contains 0.01 g clotrimazole.
  The other ingredients are: benzyl alcohol, cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, octyldodecanol, polysorbate 60, purified water, sorbitan monostearate.
