COLDAN eye drops are used to treat non-infectious irritations of the conjunctiva caused by light, smoke, chemicals, dust, drafts, etc. COLDAN eye
drops contain a vasoconstrictor substance that causes the conjunctiva to swell and inhibits the formation of secretions in the eye. The effects of COLDAN eye drops begin after a few minutes and last for around 4 hours.

Contraindications

COLDAN eye drops must not be used

  • if you are allergic to naphazoline or any of the other ingredients of this medicine (listed in section 6);
  • with dry eye inflammation;
  • if you suffer from glaucoma (angle-closure glaucoma);
  • after surgery on the pituitary gland or after surgical procedures carried out through the nose or mouth;
  • if you are also taking MAO inhibitors (medicines for depression) or have taken them within the last two weeks;
  • in children under 2 years of age (see also section 3).

Interactions

  • Because of the risk of a blood pressure crisis, COLDAN eye drops should not be used at the same time as medicines to treat depression (MAO inhibitors, tri- and tetracyclic antidepressants) (see “COLDAN eye drops must not be used”).
  • Narcotics (anaesthetics), medicines to dilate the pupils (atropine sulfate) or insulin (drug for diabetes) can, together with COLDAN eye drops, increase the effect on the heart and circulation.
  • Any depressant effect on the central nervous system that may occur can be increased by alcohol, sleeping pills, tranquilizers (drugs that have an anti-anxiety and relaxing effect), and neuroleptics (drugs used to treat mental illnesses).
  • The simultaneous use of theophylline (drug used to treat asthma) and its derivatives in high doses increases the side effects listed under point 4.
  • COLDAN combined with guanethidine and reserpine (medicines used in blood pressure therapy) can lead to an increase in blood pressure.
  • An increase in the effect occurs when medications for Parkinson's disease (trihexyphenidyl) and medications that support circulation (adrenaline and norepinephrine) are taken at the same time.
  • A reduction in effectiveness occurs when taking some medications for gout or rheumatism/pain, anti-epileptic drugs (phenytoin), substances that reduce the clotting of the blood (anticoagulants), sleeping pills (barbiturates), medicines for fungal infections (griseofulvin), corticosteroids, antibiotics ( p-aminosalicylic acid) or anesthetics (halogenated hydrocarbons).
  • Interactions can occur if you take medicines for high blood pressure (alpha and beta receptor blockers) at the same time.

This medicine contains 0.26 - 0.52 mg phosphates per single dose of 1 - 2 drops.
If you suffer from severe damage to the cornea (clear layer at the front of the eye), phosphates may occur in very rare cases due to calcium accumulation during treatment Cause cloudiness (cloudy spots) on the cornea.
