Our iron chelate forte capsules are very well tolerated and easy to take. However, since we are sometimes asked how the Eisenchelat forte capsules are best taken, we would like to go into the factors in more detail here:
It is usually recommended to take iron supplements on an empty stomach in combination with orange juice because vitamin C increases iron absorption. Sensitive stomachs are not so happy about this, but there is good news: our iron chelate contains acerola vitamin C, which is stomach-friendly and also contains the combination of natural flavonoids to optimally support the absorption of iron.
Known Interaction
Food can interfere with absorption, so it is generally recommended to take it on an empty stomach. Gastric acid-neutralizing drugs (antacids) and certain mineral supplements, including those containing calcium and magnesium from carbonates, inhibit the absorption of iron in the body, for example.
Conversely, iron can also weaken the effect of other medicines, such as some antibiotics or thyroid hormones. Many patients take the thyroid hormone L-thyroxine in the morning on an empty stomach. In this case, it is better to take the iron chelate capsules two hours after breakfast.

Overdressed
A lack of iron causes problems, but too much iron is not desirable either! Especially in children, too high iron levels can lead to vomiting and diarrhea and in the long term liver and kidney damage can occur. We therefore recommend that if you are taking an iron supplement, have your iron level measured regularly every 6-8 weeks and stop taking it once your stores have been replenished and there are no "iron robbers".
