Vitamin D has been used in infants to prevent rickets for many years. However, research in recent years shows that vitamin D has an important function for the entire body and not just for the bones. Approximately every second person in Germany does not have an adequate supply of vitamin D because, among other things, vitamin D-rich foods such as fish or liver are not eaten enough.

Our body can produce vitamin D itself with the help of the sun (UVB rays), which is why vitamin D is also referred to as the sun vitamin. However, our lifestyle does not seem to be suitable for maintaining a sufficiently high level of vitamin D in the blood.
In winter, the sun's rays (Germany) are too weak to produce enough vitamin D in the skin. Even in summer, older skin can no longer produce as much vitamin D as the skin of young people. Many young people and children already have an undersupply of vitamin D. Vitamin D, which is taken in with food or is also produced in the skin with the help of solar radiation, is first converted to active vitamin D in the liver and kidneys, and then one also speaks from the "hormone D". Adequate vitamin D intake is very important for the body as so many systems, organs, muscles, bones and tissues depend on good levels of vitamin D to function.

Vitamin D carries:

  • contributes to the normal function of the immune system,
  • contribute to the maintenance of normal muscle function,
  • contribute to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth,
  • contribute to normal cell division.
  • Vitamin D is required for healthy growth and bone development in children.
