Epi-No Delphine plus Birth Preparation Trainer
A birth is like a small miracle: joy, fascination, pure emotion - but also hard work. To ensure that you and your child are well prepared for life, you can do something before the birth:
With EPI·NO Delphine and EPI·NO Delphine Plus, you can help shape and support birth preparation yourself. Through gentle, targeted and regular training with EPI·NO, you can effectively prevent painful perineal injuries during childbirth - e.g. an episiotomy or a perineal tear.
A large proportion of all women giving birth are affected by these injuries. A perineal massage alone is often not enough for prevention, or it is perceived as unpleasant. Possible consequences of a perineal injury are inflammation, scars, pain during bowel movements, but also pain during sex. Long-term effects can also include, for example, stress incontinence or a prolapse uterus.
The idea that led to the development of EPI·NO originally came from midwives in Africa, where pregnant women prepare for childbirth naturally by stretching and strengthening the pelvic floor muscles with calabash pumpkins. As a result, they reduce the risk of perineal injury.
From this old African tradition, a modern medical device has emerged with the soft, inflatable silicone balloon from EPI·NO.
We invite you to find out more about EPI-NO on the following pages. Read studies and testimonials, the frequently asked questions and the answers to them. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email (see contact)
All documents (e.g. the complete instructions for use, a training program for postnatal recovery, etc.) are available for free download. We strive to provide factual information - not to advertise boldly.
EPI·NO is not a miracle cure but a medical training device that serves to better prepare the body for childbirth. It strengthens and stretches the muscles (important: only up to the feeling of maximum tension - without any sensation of pain!). Training with
EPI-NO does not permanently stretch (or even 'wear out') the tissue, but simply makes it more flexible, i.e. more stretchable, for a foreseen time (birth).
A simple example: If you train for a balancing act over 2-3 weeks - slowly increasing - then you can do it through constant practice and without injury or strains, rather than suddenly and unprepared. Uninjured tissue recedes much more easily. If you then stop practicing the balancing act, you will find that after some time this is no longer possible (unprepared). Basically, it's like any other 'sporty' activity (stretch, flex and relax).
EPI·NO is by no means a substitute for the work of midwives, but many midwives now use and recommend this training in addition and as a useful supplement to birth preparation. According to our last survey (1st half of 2009), every second (52%) EPI-NO used in Germany was already recommended by a midwife.
What is the pelvic floor?
The pelvic floor is one of the most important muscle groups of the whole
body. The multi-layered muscular shell connects the coccyx with
the pubis.
It closes the pelvis, which is open at the bottom, and keeps our
entire body upright, stabilizing circulation and breathing.
The stronger the pelvic floor muscles, the better the organs in the pelvis function: uterus, bladder and intestines. Well-trained
muscles also increase the fun of sexuality.
Why pelvic floor training?
At birth, the muscles of the pelvic floor are stretched extremely.
By consciously tensing and relaxing the pelvic floor muscles during postnatal gymnastics, the
muscles become strong and toned again
At the beginning of pelvic floor training, the biggest problem is that
many women do not know where their pelvic floor muscles are located, or have difficulty tensing these muscles in a targeted manner.
It is therefore crucial to develop a feeling for the muscles of the pelvic floor and to feel the
right muscle groups.
