Personal hygiene does not play a major role in head lice infestation. Head lice multiply regardless of how often your hair is washed. They cannot jump or fly, but instead crawl from head to head. Head lice and nits prefer warm and dark areas on the scalp. Therefore, they are usually located behind the ears, along the hairline and on the back of the neck. Head lice are blood-sucking, wingless parasites that feed on human blood. Their bite can cause an itchy and inflamed scalp. Head lice are not dangerous and do not spread disease, but they are very annoying and contagious.

The life cycle has three stages: nits, nymphs and adults. Female lice attach their nits to the hair using a type of adhesive directly above the scalp (max. 1 mm). Nymphs take 7 to 10 days to hatch. The development of nymphs into lice takes about 7 days. Female lice can lay up to 10 nits per day.

Due to this purely physical mode of action, no resistance to Licener® can be formed. Licener® also works on lice and nits that have become resistant to insecticides. It is advisable to treat head lice immediately after the diagnosis is made because they are easily transmitted from person to person.
