application

Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

The recommended average daily dose is 0.185 mmol magnesium (4.5 mg) per kg body weight. In the case of chronic and severe acute magnesium deficiency states, the daily dose can be safely increased to 0.37 mmol magnesium (9 mg) per kg body weight, provided there are no contraindications.

Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
Adults and adolescents over 14 years: 2 film-coated tablets 3 times a day (equivalent to 364.8 mg magnesium)
Children from 10 - 14 years: 2 film-coated tablets 2 times a day (equivalent to 243.2 mg magnesium). Magnesium)
Children from 4 - 9 years: 2 film-coated tablets once or twice a day (equivalent to 121.6 - 243.2 mg magnesium)

Children under 4 years of age:
There is insufficient experience with the use of Emgecard 2.5 mmol film-coated tablets in children under 4 years of age. Emgecard 2.5 mmol film tablets should therefore not be used in children under 4 years of age.

Elderly patients (over 65 years of age):

If you suffer from mild or moderate kidney dysfunction, careful dosing is required, but you must not take Emgecard 2.5 mmol film-coated tablets if you suffer from severe kidney dysfunction.

Method and duration of
administration Please swallow the film-coated tablets whole with sufficient liquid (preferably a glass of water). Emgecard 2.5 mmol film-coated tablets should be taken before meals, as this improves absorption from the gastrointestinal tract into the bloodstream.

Emgecard 2.5 mmol film-coated tablets should be taken daily for at least 4 weeks in the case of chronic magnesium deficiency. Long-term therapy with Emgecard 2.5 mmol film-coated tablets (for years) is also harmless if the kidneys function normally, since excess magnesium is excreted via the kidneys.

If you have any further questions on the use of the medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

side effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Gastrointestinal tract:
Uncommon (affects 1 to 10 users in 1000) loose stools or diarrhea may occur, but this is easily resolved by reducing the daily dose or stopping for a while.

General disorders and conditions at the administration site
Rarely (1 to 10 users in 10,000) symptoms of tiredness can occur after high doses and long-term use. This can be an indication that an increased magnesium concentration in the blood has already been reached.
